The word “Borgo” means town. Rome’s Borgo is where the first pilgrims to St. Peter were housed in hostels and inns. Much of the area’s character was destroyed by redevelopment in 1930s but it’s still enjoyable to explore the old narrow streets on either side of Via della Conciliazione.
