The Capitoline Museums are hosted in the Palazzo dei Conservatori and in the Palazzo Nuovo, two buildings on the east and west sides of Piazza del Campidoglio, both with facades designed by Michelangelo. The collections include some of the most celebrated sculptures of the ancient world, including the original of the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius that once stood in the piazza. The majority of the most beautiful sculptures in the museum are copies of Greek’s masterpieces.
