Tempio di Vesta, Rome

This temple has acquired its name solely because of its circular shape; infact, there was only one temple dedicated to Vesta, the one in the Roman Forum. That one, was dedicated to Hercules. With its columns, its Corinthian capitals, it’s an elegant building which dates from the reign of Augustus. During the Middle Ages, a church was established in the cella; in 16C it was dedicated to S. Mary of the Sun.
