The church was found in the 7C and was greatly altered during the Renaissance. The beautiful apsidal mosaic has abandoned the Byzantine rigidity for a more life-like representation. The Navicella Fountain, in front of the church, was created in 1931 out of a 16C sculpture in imitation of an ancient boat.
