Laterano Obelisk, Rome

In Piazza S. Giovanni stand a fine Egyptian obelisk made of granite, the tallest in Rome. It was brought to Rome in the 4C by Constantinus II to adorn the Circus Maximus. It was repaired and located at the centre of the S. Giovanni Square by Domenico Fontana at the time of Sixtus V.
