Trajan's Markets, Rome

Trajan's Forum consisted of a covered market with a concave façade and the Forum itself which comprised a public palace, the Basilica Ulpia, Trajan's column, two libraries and the temple. It was inaugurated by Trajan in 113 and, even after Trajan's death, the prestige of his Forum did not fade; it was the setting for official demonstrations. In the market there were about 150 shops but it wasn't a simple retail market but a centre for the acquisition, division and redistribution of supplies.
